Sew The Word
Sew the Word is a chance for stitchers of all levels to enjoy fellowship and communicate God’s Word, while celebrating God’s presence. As well as helping the community by donating the things we create, Sew the Word is also a chance for those involved to grow more mature in their Christian walk through Bible study, prayer time and sharing with others.
We have made and distributed fleece hats and scarves to homeless shelters, baby blankets and bibs to crisis pregnancy centers, and our main foci, comfort quilts, to people in need of comfort because of illness or personal crisis and comfort pillows for children admitted into pediatric emergency departments.
And let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and do confirm for us the work of our hands; yes, confirm the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17
Our child-sized pillows are a big hit in the Franklin Square Pediatric Emergency Department where kids from birth to teens are treated. Any child in need of a comfortable, huggable pillow is given one of our quilted-top creations for comfort during a stress-filled time.
The Sew the Word ministry is always in need of Poly-Fil for the pediatric pillows. If you would like to donate a 5 lb box ($20-30) or a 25 lb Box ($130) you find them online or through retailers like JoAnn Fabrics or Walmart. It is important to get this brand because it has been proven to work best in making the pillows.
Of course, financial gifts are always welcome to Sew the Word for the purchase of the Poly-Fil or to help maintain one of the many sewing machines they use or for this ministry to use the gift where it is needed. If you would like to make a contribution: please use one of the church envelopes you will find in the pew, make sure you write “Sew the Word” on the envelope with the amount giving, and if you write a check make it out to White Marsh Baptist Church.”
